Redevelopment of station facilities into retail units – M&E Strip Out and Installation

Project value

£650,000

Duration

20 months

Client

TFL

DPH delivered a mechanical and electrical redevelopment package at Canary Wharf TfL Station. The project involved the transformation of existing station facilities into new retail units, including the strip-out of existing electrical and mechanical services, the installation of new switch panels, cable management systems, lighting and power, and the delivery of new mains water supplies, drainage and ventilation systems. All systems were fully tested and commissioned, with the works delivered under strict adherence to the QICC process, requiring detailed assurance, sequencing and compliance at every stage. DPH was involved throughout the full project lifecycle, developing a detailed understanding of the technical requirements, deliverables and assurance obligations associated with working within a live TfL environment.

A critical element of the project was the management of isolations and interfaces with existing station assets. DPH coordinated closely with key stakeholders including Telent, Transport for London and ENGIE to identify all assets affected by the works, develop detailed isolation plans, and ensure assets were safely isolated, removed or reconfigured. Where required, circuits were carefully re-routed to maintain supplies to live station areas and operational assets.

The project was successfully completed with minimal disruption to station operations, underpinned by detailed planning, proactive stakeholder coordination and a strong focus on safety and quality. Drawing on extensive experience of delivering works in operational TfL environments, DPH ensured all activities were completed in compliance with TfL standards and assurance processes, achieving a controlled, high-quality handover that enabled the successful introduction of new retail facilities within one of London’s busiest stations.
